  미국의 보딩스쿨은 약 300여 개 이상이 있고, 여러 매체에서 보딩스쿨 순위를 발표한다. 발표하는 매체에 따라서 차이가 많이 나는데, 이는 순위 산정에 어떤 기준을 반영하는가에 따라 달라지기 때문이다.

 

  순위 산정에 쓰이는 몇 가지 지표로 ① SAT 평균점수 ② 명문대에 입학한 실적 ③ 학교 기금(Endowment) ④ 졸업생 만족도 ⑤ 사회적으로 명성 있는 졸업생 등 여러 가지가 있다. 그러나 이와 같은 지표가 판단에 영향을 미치는 모든 것이 될 수는 없을 것이다.

 

  미국 내에서도 다양한 기준에 의하여 학교를 평가하므로 절대적인 랭킹은 아니라는 점을 염두에 두어야 한다. 유학 가고자 하는 보딩스쿨의 탐색은 학생의 진로와 주관적인 선호도, 학부모의 유학비용 예산, 학생의 현재 실력과 학습 성향 등 많은 부분을 고려하여야 바람직할 것이다.
